The DAKOTA robust car leather is based on one of BMW 's most widely used car leathers and has been used as standard in numerous models for many years - including the 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3, X5 as well as coupé and convertible variants from the E90, F30, E60, F10 and more series.
The material offered here is made from pigmented genuine leather of South American origin and is known for its robust, embossed surface with a distinctive texture . It is dyed through, mineral-tanned , and meets all the important requirements of the automotive industry – including UV resistance, tear resistance, and colorfastness.
Thanks to its durable top layer and deep grain, DAKOTA robust is ideal for everyday use in vehicles. Typical applications include seat cushions, door panels, center armrests, side panels, and steering wheels. This leather is also a reliable choice in professional applications—for example, for retrofits or OEM-like conversions .
As a direct successor to the earlier Montana leather from the 1990s, DAKOTA offers even greater durability. It is also considered the predecessor of the modern Vernasca leather , which is used in many current BMW models.
